Running for an Officer Position

The Federalist Society is looking for leaders. Below you will find the available positions and their duties. Other than President, all positions are open to be filled.


OFFICER DUTIES


President

• preside over the Executive Board
• supervise chapter officers
• oversee coordination among chapter officers
• elicit student feedback
• invite speakers
• set agendas for events
• send event notifications to listserv members with attached flyer one day before each event
• preside at events
• introduce speakers at events
• send appreciation notes to speakers after events
• coordinate with the Dean
• coordinate with the faculty advisor
• coordinate with the lawyer's chapter president
• encourage participation of the faculty advisor and lawyer's chapter president
• coordinate with National
• check and maintain the fedsoc@lclark.edu e-mail account

Vice President (Speaker Relations)

• assist chapter President in all presidential duties
• coordinate with speakers on traveling, lodging, parking, transportation, etc.
• recruit debate partners for events
• coordinate with co-sponsoring organizations regarding debate partners
• gather biographical information on speakers
• collect student input on debate topics
• research debate topics
• develop relevant and controversial legal questions on debate topics

Vice President (Public Relations)

• assist chapter President in all presidential duties
• create flyers
• get flyers approved and stamped one week before each event
• post flyers on campus one week before each event
• remove flyers after each event
• write "today" on all flyers the morning of each event
• write event announcements on all classroom white boards the morning of each event
• place announcement memos on all classroom podiums the morning of each event
• update the bulletin board
• check and maintain the fed-soc@lclark.edu listserv, including subscribing and unsubscribing

Vice President (Event Administration)

• assist chapter President in all presidential duties
• check, maintain, and update the www.law.lclark.edu/org/fedsoc webpage
• check, maintain, and update the lclarkfedsoc@gmail.com blog
• schedule room reservations and request podcasting equipment two weeks in advance at http://law.lclark.edu/dept/lawevent
• e-mail calendar updates to National one week in advance
• e-mail law school announcements one week in advance to announce@lclark.edu
• complete and turn in the food services waiver form one week in advance
• call to remind scheduling and facilities departments regarding room and parking details one day before each event
• e-mail event summaries to National within one week after each event
• e-mail podcast summaries to Carla Almaraz at almaraz@lclark.edu within one week after each event

Vice President (Event Coordination)

• assist chapter President in all presidential duties
• bring the banner and all other supplies to each event
• set up classroom before each event
• pick up and deliver parking passes to speakers on the day of the event
• get all speakers bottled water
• collect, distribute, and recycle food and drink products
• pass out and collect the listserv sign-up clipboards at events
• explain the podcast concept to speakers
• get speakers to sign speaker release forms for podcasting
• moderate the Q&A session at the end of each event
• store the banner and all other supplies after each event

Treasurer

• assume responsibility for the budget
• create an annual budget
• submit a budget request in the fall
• advocate budget before budget hearings
• record all budget expenditures
• complete all reimbursement forms
• update budget after each event
• give chapter President budget updates after each event
• inform the law school of all fund-raising activities or donations
